Resources to Learn about Scars and Keloids

Our office is the leading scar treatment center in the United States and we see patients from all over the world. One of the most gratifying aspects of our practice is that we see patients from many backgrounds. What we especially enjoy are patients who are committed to learning about their scar problem. Education and research are key to understanding and treating scars. If you are reading this, you are probably in the minority of patients who dedicate themselves to understanding and researching scar formation.

There are many different types of scars that can develop on the skin. There are also many different ways to categorize scars, be it on the basis of morphology (shape), physiology (biologics), visibillity, color, contour, location, presence of inflammation, and symptoms. During your consultation for scar revision in our Santa Monica plastic surgery office, Dr. Karamanoukian will carefully examine your scar and provide you with detailed information regarding your options for scar revision. The most common types of scars that we encounter are either hypertrophic, keloid, or atrophic.
